Kayem privacy policy

Kayem is a running training app made by Bunkworks Ltd, a company registered in the UK ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Kayem. In short: your training plan, your runs, your location and your Apple Health data stay on your iPhone (and in Apple Health, if you allow it). The only data that leaves your device is what Google's advertising service needs to show ads.

Information that stays on your iPhone

  • Your plan and settings: your race, race date, a recent 5K time, your running days, how sessions felt and your preferences. These are stored only on your iPhone, inside the app.

  • Apple Health data: if you allow it, Kayem reads your running workouts (date, distance, duration, average heart rate and route) to tick off completed sessions, show your progress and adjust your paces. When you track a run in Kayem, it saves that run to Apple Health as a running workout with its distance and route. Health data is processed only on your device. It is never sent to us, never shared with anyone else, never stored in iCloud by Kayem and never used for advertising or marketing.

  • Location: only while you track a run on your iPhone, Kayem uses GPS to map your route and measure your distance and pace, including with the screen locked. Your route is stored on your iPhone and, if you allow it, in Apple Health. Kayem never uses your location at any other time, never sends it to us and never shares it with advertisers.

  • Calendar: if you turn on calendar sync, Kayem creates a separate calendar called "Kayem" (or, if your calendar account doesn't allow new calendars, uses your default calendar) and adds your upcoming sessions to it. Kayem only adds, changes and removes its own events, and doesn't read or use your other calendar events.

  • Apple Watch workouts: if you allow it, Kayem sends your upcoming sessions to the Workout app on your Apple Watch through Apple's WorkoutKit. This happens between your own devices.

The "More from Bunkworks" section in Settings loads our other games' icons from Apple's App Store. No personal information is sent with that request.

We don't run any servers for Kayem, there are no user accounts, and we can't see your plan or your health data.

Advertising

Kayem is free and shows small banner ads provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited in the UK and EEA). To show and measure ads, Google's software in the app may collect:

  • your device's IP address, used to estimate your general location (country or city, never your precise location)

  • device identifiers that are limited to the app or its developer (Kayem never asks for permission to track you, so iOS blocks access to your device's advertising identifier)

  • information about the ads you see and tap, how you interact with the app, and crash and performance data

In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, Kayem shows Google's consent message before any ads load, so you can choose whether Google may use your data for personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time in Kayem under Settings › About › Ad privacy choices. Kayem never passes your plan, your health data or anything about your training to Google or to advertisers.

Legal basis (UK GDPR and EU GDPR)

For Apple Health, location and calendar data, the legal basis is your consent, which you give through Apple's Health permission screen and can withdraw at any time in the Health app. For advertising, the legal basis is your consent where the law requires it, given through the consent message, and otherwise our legitimate interest in funding a free app.

Your rights

You can delete everything Kayem stores by choosing Settings › Start a new plan or by deleting the app. You can stop Kayem using Health data in the Health app under your profile › Apps › Kayem, and turn off location or calendar access in the Settings app under Privacy & Security. For data held by Google, see Google's privacy policy above. Under UK and EU data protection law you have rights to access, correct, delete and object to the use of your personal data, and you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.

Children

Kayem isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Kayem gives general training guidance, not medical advice. Check with a doctor before starting a new training plan, especially if you have a health condition, and stop if you feel pain or unwell.
